Car Seat Checkups
OK, you tried to install your carseat. And despite all your research, and the database entries you found, you can't get it to fit. Or perhaps you worked really hard on it, and you're just not sure all the things you did to get it to fit are OK. Now what?
Now it is time to get professional help from a Child Passenger Safety Technician. The U.S. has a huge network of these folks all over the country, ready to assist you to transport your child safely. Some are firefighters or local law enforcement. Others work for car dealerships or stores where they sell car seats. Some are parents who volunteer their time to help out.
How can you find one?
-
Child Safety Seat Inspection Station Locator
NTHSA's search engine lets you look for inspection stations by zip code or state.
-
Find your Nearest Fit For A Kid dealer
Daimer Chrysler runs the Fit For A Kid program, with inspection stations at many car dealerships across the country.
There are other clinics and fitting stations that are not included in these locators. See if your state has a list of clinics. Call your local hospital or fire station to ask. Just remember that these programs are typically underfunded, or on a completely volunteer basis, and it may take some time to find a clinic that is convenient for you.
